Speakers Who Inspire: Linda Villarosa
Join us for a powerful evening with New York Times Magazine writer Linda Villarosa, whose book Under the Skin: The Hidden Toll of Racism on American Lives and on the Health of Our Nation was a 2023 Pulitzer Prize finalist. Villarosa will discuss the link between health and racism, shedding light on the forces in our healthcare system and society that cause Black people to “live sicker and die quicker” compared to their white counterparts.
Villarosa’s work tells the story of racial health disparities in America by making clear the toll racism takes on individuals and public health. In her talk, she’ll touch on outdated medical industry assumptions about Black bodies, environmental racism, studies showing worse treatment and outcomes for Black patients, the health effects of weathering a lifetime of racism, and more.
Doors open at 5 PM for dinner. Programming runs from 6 – 7:30 PM with a book-signing afterwards.
