Moving Forward With Race – Our Nation, State, and Communities- Post 2020 Election

Nov 12, 2020 @ 3:00 PM

The Board of Trustees of the Foundation for a Healthy St. Petersburg invite you to a post-election Virtual Town Hall. We are at a moral crossroads of race in America. A moment when division and fear have become the norm and the common good is waning. We all have racist views, practices and beliefs, known and unknown. Antiracism is the antidote to change ourselves, our communities and our systems that generate early demise, added disease, and the heavy burden of not being white to members of our community. Being and acting as antiracists requires communal connections.

In this moment, the Foundation serves a specific function: to convene a diverse community across races, ages, and sectors focused on peaceful approaches that accelerate race equity. Moving forward includes practice at ongoing expression of our experiences with one another. And deeply listening to understand the experiences of others. Moving forward is also finding ways to heal – healing can inspire healthy actions to solutions. We seek a way forward – through ongoing expression to and with one another. We offer shared experiences and pathways to move into healing. And together we act on a path forward.

The Foundation’s role is to offer the space and focus. Please join us.

This two-hour Virtual Town Hall creates the space and time to express what you are experiencing and to listen to the experience of others. It will offer healing messages and moments, and multiple tools for a path forward to antiracism – for your own journey and for that of the community.

There will be two 20-minute sessions for groups of five in breakout rooms to have a self-guided conversation to express and listen and reflect. Grounding approaches to the conversation will be shared in advance. Invitations for healing will be offered throughout. The path forward is your own journey and will likely cultivate ideas and thoughts about next steps. The Foundation will follow up in a few weeks to see what ideas have stuck with you and have inspired you to action.

Program details will be released as they are finalized; the main purpose is to create space to express and listen, and to initiate ways to actively heal and move as a community. Please register and mark your calendars now.
