Vision + Mission

MISSION: To end differences in health due to social or structural disadvantages to improve population health. We do this by inspiring and empowering people, ideas, information exchange, organizations and relationships.

VISION: Every person equitably achieves optimal health and well-being.

The greatest health challenges in our community are rooted in our history and experience of racial discrimination. To improve overall population health, the goal of race equity is the priority.

The Community’s health challenges are complex. They are both a cause and a consequence of a number of social and other factors that can be referred to as the social determinants of health. They can include poverty, educational shortfalls, employment, safety, security, opportunity and lack of timely access to health services and activities. Examining how these factors impact health and well-being will lead to identifying the right partners, alliances and strategies and will promote good health.

History + Legacy

Formed in 2013 following the sale of the nonprofit hospital Bayfront Health St. Petersburg, the Foundation for a Healthy St. Petersburg is a private foundation serving the residents of South Pinellas County. Our goal is to improve population health by advancing racial and health equity. Sometimes positive change to local conditions can best be accomplished by working at the county level with countywide systems, such as the school district, health department, and transportation system to name a few. We work with these county partners where appropriate, however impact is measured in the South County area.
We also work with more than 100 nonprofits and have invested over $21 million in the community over the last three years.
