The Foundation was proud to award $15,000 in funding to support several Juneteenth activities and celebrations throughout the month.

Events supported this year include the Juneteenth flag-raising June 7th, the Juneteenth Celebration at Deuces Corner Park June 14th, and Black Wall Street Shoppes last weekend.

Flag Raising: Held at the Enoch D. Davis Center on June 7th, the annual Juneteenth flag-raising event featured family-friendly activities like music, poetry, dancing, food and more!

Juneteenth Celebration: On Saturday, June 14th, the Deuces Corner Park came alive with the Juneteenth Celebration featuring breakdancers from Bay Breaks Entertainment, backed by the beats of 4HM DJ. Organized by The Burg Cares, the event also offered health screenings and testing, including take-home HIV testing kits.

“We had more than 100 people going in and out throughout the day,” said Shundra Allison, Founder and CEO of The Burg Cares and President of the Deuces. “We do this every year to give that health message in a really cool way, because everyone is going to remember a good time. We love elevating the culture and the significance behind Juneteenth, and we speak the health piece to it because that information needs to get out constantly.”

Black Wall Street Shoppes: Finally, on Saturday June 21th, we were proud to help fund the Black Wall Street Shoppes on the Deuces. A total of 87 local vendors participated in the day, with 11 selling out of their full inventory before the event ended at 8 PM.

“Setting up on the Deuces was extremely impactful for small businesses and Saturday Shoppes,” said Saturday Shoppes Founder and CEO Renee Edwards. “Quite a few people asked me to come back and do it again. Next year, I plan to extend even further!”
