Q: What drew you to the Foundation’s mission?
A: I was drawn to the Foundation’s mission because my mom is a birth doula through the Pinellas Healthy Start Coalition, a role made possible by the Foundation’s funding. Through her, I’ve seen firsthand the difference doulas make by providing support, resources, and advocacy for clients, especially when they feel overwhelmed or unable to speak up for themselves. Many of her clients stay in touch, and she continues connecting them to resources throughout their postpartum journey. Seeing this impact showed me how meaningful the Foundation’s work is. I feel honored to contribute as HR and support those making this meaningful impact.
Q: How does HR strengthen the effectiveness of organizations?
A: HR strengthens an organization’s effectiveness in many ways. Many people think of HR as policies, processes, and compliance, but it is much more than that. People are at the heart of any organization and supporting them is essential. As a strategic partner, HR focuses on understanding the organization’s definition of success and aligning its initiatives to help achieve those goals. My favorite thing about HR is the employee experience and helping maintain a positive culture. This includes recognizing and supporting employees, encouraging open communication, providing opportunities for growth, serving as a sounding board when needed, and fostering development.
Q: What are you most looking forward to in your role?
A: I am beyond excited to contribute to the Foundation’s learning initiatives and to help identify opportunities that support it. As a lifelong learner, I believe that growth and knowledge lead to great outcomes. I know this focus will enhance the work we do and directly impact the wonderful things we accomplish for the community.
Q: Share a secret superpower or give us a fun fact about you.
A: I try to stay positive and smile, even in tough moments. Everywhere I’ve worked, I’ve been given nicknames like “Smiley” or “Giggles.” I read a study that showed that smiling helps us recover from stress and improves our cardiovascular responses in stressful situations. This is my way of bringing a little light to the world and the people around me.
