We Run These Streets 5K

Final Days of Registration for the City’s Newest 5K Run/Walk Celebrating South St. Petersburg

We Run These Streets 5K, set for October 4th and hosted by the Foundation for a Healthy St. Petersburg, aims to spark joy, movement, and community

(St. Petersburg, July 31, 2025.) –  Registration will close next Thursday for the City’s newest 5K run in the heart of South St. Petersburg, which is taking place on Saturday, October 4, at 8 AM. We Run These Streets 5K, hosted by the Foundation for a Healthy St. Petersburg, invites residents from across the region to walk, run and celebrate the beauty of the people and places of South St. Petersburg. The race aims to improve community health by not only building endurance and fitness, but by also building community.

“As we mark our first 10 years of service in our community, we’re organizing this race to celebrate South St. Pete’s assets and beauty – including its warm and wonderful residents – and to build ties and spark joy as we run these streets, together,” said Foundation President and CEO Dr. Kanika Tomalin. “There are so many ways to engage, beyond just running or walking. You can volunteer, come cheer people on, serve as a vendor, and more; we want you here.”

The Details:

What:               We Run These Streets 5K

When:              October 4th, 2025, at 8 AM

Where:             2333 34th St. S, St. Petersburg, FL 33711

Who:                 All community members and organizations are invited to participate as runners, walkers, volunteers, cheerleaders, spectators, and more.

Why:                 To build health and community by celebrating the people and the places of South St. Pete

While all people should be able to thrive in good health, that is currently not the case. The Foundation’s recent South St. Pete Health Equity study illustrates how, at present, Black residents and those living in South St. Petersburg have shorter average life expectancies than city and county residents as a whole. Residents of the three zip codes of the South St. Petersburg Community Redevelopment Area (CRA) are also significantly more likely to die from chronic conditions like diabetes or heart disease. However, the study also revealed strong community assets in South St. Pete – like dedicated neighborhood-level organizations, engaged residents, stunning green spaces, and more.

“Our health is shaped by factors far beyond genetics or medical care, including the conditions in the environments in which we grow, learn, work and play. This includes the strength and breadth of our social ties,” said Tomalin. “We Run These Streets is all about building community, celebrating our local South St. Pete neighborhoods, and creating space for people and families to be active together in a part of our city that’s beautiful and welcoming but not always celebrated.”

The route will be certified and officially timed/bibbed, and community members of all abilities are invited to participate. To support residents, the Foundation is supporting the South St. Pete Run Club to help anyone interested in participating get ready for the run/walk; discount codes are also available to local residents for whom the registration fee is a barrier to participate.

Running Club: The South St. Pete Run Club has been helping local residents get ready for the 5K race. The group meets on Mondays at 6:30 PM. Follow them on Instagram for updates and more.

Volunteering/Engagement: Community organizations interested in taking part in the race in some capacity should reach out to Foundation Impact Manager Joshua Bean at joshua@healthystpete.foundation.
